Diane Vigil
I am: Diane Vigil
Age: 56
Occupation: Executive director, Dameron Hospital Foundation, public relations director, Dameron Hospital
Town in which I currently live: Stockton
My hometown: Born in Bakersfield
How long I’ve lived in San Joaquin County: 45 years
What I like most about San Joaquin County: The diversity of its people and beautiful summer nights
The people who mean the most to me: Obviously, my husband Donovan and my four children, their spouses, my grandchildren, parents, in-laws, brothers and sisters – who all live in Stockton.
Favorite SJ County place to take friends when they come to visit: Roberts Island to explore the Delta and expansive farmlands
A key event in my life and the impact it had on me: Moving to Stockton at the age of 9 after a summer in Idaho with my grandparents. I attended a Jobs Daughters installation there and knew that I wanted to be involved. Serving as Honored Queen of Jobs Daughters Bethel #83 taught me the skills of planning events, public speaking, and organization, which is a large part of what I do today.
One thing I want to accomplish while I am able: Write a book and create a program to teach young girls confidence through manners and self-respect.
Favorite sports team: Sacramento Kings
Favorite vacation destination: Capitola – the beach!
Hobbies: Cooking and reading and watching my grandchildren
Sports I enjoy: Watching basketball and golf
Pets: Doggies Pico and Baby
Favorite food/dessert: Love a good steak, which isn’t good to admit when you are a girl… anything with caramel
I “give back” by volunteering with: American Heart Association Go Red for Women; retired board member of Hospice of San Joaquin; Women’s Ministry; Leadership Prayer Breakfast.
Other information you would like to share: When my family moved temporarily to Stockton, my mother said, “We are never going back to Bakersfield because it’s green here.” The theatre and the arts were the final hook in keeping us in Stockton, changing our lives for the better.
