Enjoy a nice meal and so much more

If you’re interested in green living, perhaps you can begin with a green salad from the salad bar at Whirlow’s Restaurant.
Actually you have a choice of two locations: one in Lincoln Center and one at 1926 Pacific Avenue on the Miracle Mile. Whirlow’s is a restaurant that hearkens vaguely to the hof brau concept.
The patron can choose a signature salad from the compact menu featuring a southwestern salad with chicken, corn, black beans and tortilla chips or an Oriental chicken salad with housemade Asian dressing.
The owners, Lisa and Mike Whirlow – along with sons Ryan and Blake – were inspired to open their restaurant when they couldn’t find healthy fast food at the chain restaurants. In their travels they noted this salad bar concept, allowing the diner to order exactly what he wants. The concept was already operative in some of the larger cities they visited.
In their restaurant along with the salad bar there is also a sandwich bar. A soup and two sides are prepared daily as well. For the children (and many carb-craving adults) they offer macaroni and cheese, chicken tenders and fries. Ribs and sides of meat are also available. Recently they added hamburgers to the menu.
In preparation for this article I recently visited the newly opened Whirlow’s on Pacific Avenue. Greg Basso was having lunch. I asked him what he thought about his experience. He said, “The surroundings are pleasant, the food is tasty and there is plenty of free parking.” For Gail Wagner it’s the ability to have exactly the salad she wants that makes her appreciate the lunch offerings.
Next door to the Pacific Avenue location is Yogurt My Way, also owned by the Whirlow family. Once again the concept is to offer patrons what they want. The yogurt is priced by the ounce, 38 cents an ounce with toppings extra. Lincoln Center has a Yogurt My Way for those who live in north Stockton. If you are planning a business meeting or an open house, they also offer catering services.
If you need a night off from cooking, the restaurant offers a dinner for two to take out. It includes a salad, main course and dessert. Whirlow’s is a timely addition to the Stockton lunch and dinner scene and a tasty way to promote green living.
