Tip Your Heart
BY LAURIE EAGER
“Oh Lord, stuck in Lodi again…”
Undoubtedly those lyrics will be shouted loud and clear on Friday, September 10 as Creedence Clearwater Revisited once again rocks Hutchins Square. This concert marks the fifth major musical production sponsored by the Tip Your Heart Foundation.
Established in 2006 by Leo and LaNise Burke, the foundation was created to raise money to support women and children through a series of fun events. The first such event was the Dog and Trout Golf Tournament with proceeds earmarked for Lodi House women’s shelter. Leo and LaNise’s lives have both been affected by cancer, so the second foundation fundraiser was the Tip Your Heart Golf Tourney with funds directed to the UCSF Breast Cancer Research Center.
The Burkes were looking for a unique fundraising idea, and decided to bring big-name talent to our area. The idea of a rock concert was a natural fit for the Burkes, owners of LB Production Center, a firm specializing in theatrical lighting, sound, video and staging for a wide variety of multimedia clients.
Passionate about helping others, the Burkes set a fundraising goal of $1million over five years. Due to the overwhelming success of the Rock the Square concerts, they were able to reach this goal in only four years. Past performances include Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Kenny Loggins, The Doobie Brothers and Foreigner. In addition to world-class music, attendees are treated to a gourmet catered dinner and an open bar. Rather than individual tickets, tables of eight are priced at $3,000. Generous underwriting support from the founders and sponsors enables 100% of the proceeds of the concerts to be given directly to charity.
Tip Your Heart Foundation is comprised of a team of people who volunteer their time, energy, ideas and skills to make our community, and ultimately, the world, a better place. Children’s Home of Stockton, Lodi Boys & Girls Club, LOEL Center, Hospice of San Joaquin and Lodi Cancer Kids are among the grateful beneficiaries of the $1,046,000 raised by the group thus far. Rocking out under the stars on a warm San Joaquin evening, enjoying a wonderful meal, surrounded by enthusiastic people, all for a very worthy cause – it doesn’t get much better!
Tip Your Heart has 501c3 status and provides a tax receipt for ticket purchasers. (www.TipYourHeart.com or 209-333-1032 for more information)
