Happy Trails
HAPPY TRAILS!

Thursday, March 4th, Caden James Sass was born. The Sassman and I are now grandparents. The miracle of new life hit home like we never had imagined. As we settle in to enjoy the benefits of grandparenting, it is apparent that being and staying healthy is now top on our list.

We want to be around for ALL the Sass grandbabies that come into this world. We realize the importance of renewed energy to play outdoors, hike and bike, take family vacations and spend quiet evenings together reading wonderful stories, and camping out in the backyard to study the stars and planets.

I’m especially looking forward to long walks with Caden, stopping to see the birds, flowers and icky bugs along the trail.

Preparing for the birth of Caden, over the last several months, I have been walking with my friend Carol on Saturday mornings. We usually meet at Burns Tower at UOP and for one hour walk through its beautiful campus.

Up and over the bridge, along the levee, past the new Don and Karen DeRosa University Center, the Janssen-Lagorio Gym, the Spanos Center, looping around to see the progress of the newest building go up along Stadium Way. When the weather turns warmer and drier, we will rotate locations: UOP, Caswell Park in Ripon, Lodi Lake and other trails within a short drive.

Contributing writer Mary Raffetto outlines the health benefits of walking in her story, “Walk On!” (page 62), and highlights a variety of walking trails to be explored. So get up and get going. You don’t even have to leave the county! Walk with your neighbor, a friend, your family, the dog.
I’m taking Caden.
