Love...
BY CARRIE SASS
Love – an overused word for many things that aren’t necessarily important in life! We love this, we love that, we just love, love, love that new dress – the list goes on. It probably should be reserved for what we truly do love.
Valentine’s Day does help us a bit to focus on the more personal, romantic side of love. Relationships, candlelit dinners, time together. I attempted to come up with a list of my own random “loves” to share with you. Without digressing too much into the unimportant, here it is. Maybe you should make a list, too!
Not necessarily in order of importance:
I love: anticipating the birth of my first grandchild; listening to talented musicians (it soothes my soul); morning coffee on the deck at Shaver Lake reminds me of God’s creativity; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday’s crossword puzzles (the rest of the week gets more difficult);
the diversity of my friends (they keep me grounded); my husband Tim – affectionately known as The SASSMAN; the psychologist and educator at my study group (they keep me thinking);
supporting literacy projects and programs; funky art (check out our recycled art story on page 62); God – life changer; my fun and fabulously talented adult children (Aaron, wife Anna, and Andi); my hometown of Kingsburg, California; amazing clients; discovering San Joaquin County people and places to share with Lifestyles readers;
chocolate with almonds and caramel (note the local selections on page 40); riding in fast boats – such freedom; my smart and sassy staff;
and life – it is a precious gift.
Speaking of love, Fritz and Phyllis Grupe are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary by sponsoring and attending the Stockton Symphony’s Valentine Pops Concert – Broadway Romance (Saturday, February 13 at 6 pm) featuring soprano Teri Bibb and tenor Dennis McNeil.
Take your love to a romantic dinner at one of San Joaquin County’s fabulous restaurants, drink savory local wines, followed by an enchanting evening with the Symphony! Romance at its best! XOXO.
We’re looking for mother and child photos for our April issue.
Along with your photo, include names and three sentences to best describe your mom in the photo. Send to cmsass@comcast.net. Deadline is February 15th!
