Love for the Land Through the generations
BY LAURIE EAGER
Kevin Sanguinetti grew up working beside his father and grandfather on a 40-acre orchard of walnuts and cherries.
He remembers “hating farming,” and went on to have a successful career with First American Title. Today, however, he loves working the land, and is enjoying the good life in his newly constructed home amid the very same walnut and cherry trees.
Kevin’s great-grandfather, Tomaso Sanguinetti, purchased this lovely parcel of property in the late 1800s from Captain Charles M. Weber’s family. The home was occupied by Tomaso’s family, and then the property passed to son Joe, then to grandson Elmer, and finally to great-grandson Kevin.
The current Sanguinetti family moved onto the property in 1988, and for many years inhabited the original brick family home once owned by Kevin’s great grandfather. Kevin and his wife Linda decided that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives on this property, and made the decision to tear down the old structure and build a new home to suit their lifestyle.
They both agree that they had a wonderful team to help them realize their vision. Mike Donaldson, an architect with LDA Partners, took the ideas that Kevin had sketched out and came up with a wonderful floor plan that effectively connects the indoor spaces with the beautiful surroundings outdoors.
Greg Jackson, contractor with Pacific Design, brought the ideas to life with a skilled cadre of subcontractors.
Stately gates open to reveal a bubbling fountain, which welcomes visitors to the Sanguinetti property. Colorful flowers abound in the surrounding gardens.
The Mediterranean-styled home is beautifully decorated with warm colors and comfortable furnishings. Sheila Robinson from Ambiance Interiors has created an environment which reflects the owners’ tastes, and blends with the views seen through the many windows.
The repeated use of arches and curved walls softens the large home, and adds visual interest.
The 6,800-square-foot home is tastefully appointed with spaces that meet the needs of the entire family, including a wine room off the dining area, a hobby room for Linda, two laundry rooms, a home office for Kevin, and a playroom for their two boys.
The family enjoys cooking together in the spacious kitchen outfitted with Wolf appliances and a large granite island. The master suite is an especially luxurious getaway. In the bedroom, large French doors open out onto the terrace. The Sanguinettis have taken the concept of his-and-her bathrooms to a new level. On her side, a private, feminine spa feeling is created with a soaking tub overlooking a rose garden.
The bathroom is clad in softly honed travertine with Grecian-style moldings and a large, ornate mirror. On his side, slate tile on the floors and shower walls imbue the space with a distinctly masculine flavor. His secluded retreat includes a teak bathtub, sauna and exercise room.
Outdoors, the home was designed to accommodate the interests of the Sanguinetti clan. Kevin and Linda’s sons, Connor, 13, and Chandler, 9, spend lots of time enjoying the backyard. Connor is a competitive swimmer, and can work out in a regulation-length pool with a professional starting block.
The lap pool was incorporated into a larger two-level design with a waterfall and spa to provide the central component to the entire space. Kevin often barbeques for family and friends in the outdoor kitchen while the boys have fun on the basketball court. On cooler evenings, friends can gather around the fireplace and even enjoy a game on television.
Thoughtful planning and design have created a fabulous, vacation-like feeling at home for the Sanguinetti family where a fifth generation grows up on a property steeped in tradition.
