The essence of most great works of art can be summed up in two words – light and detail. How light reflects off a surface engages the artist’s point of view, and the detail with which the artist crafts his/her subject draws the eye into that magnificent world. It is these touches that set the masters apart from the amateurs.

The same can be said for a masterfully remodeled home. In this case, the homeowners found the ideal canvas: a single-story on the 18th hole in Brookside. French doors and windows throughout allow lush gardens to peek into the airy interior.

But the new homeowners wanted to use their own special touches on the house, so they brought in premier custom homebuilder Peter Giudice, owner of the Chelsdan Company. A year and a half later, the home’s interior has been reconstructed with top-of-the-line features and amenities – yet the ambiance is delightfully understated. This dreamy Bahamas-style villa belies its 5,000 square feet.

Smooth, cream colored walls contrast warmly with the rich cherry hardwood flooring. Throughout the house, soft and dramatic lighting highlights a palette of hues and textures, creating a luxuriously relaxed home that is a delectable feast for the eyes.

Accomplishing such livable beauty took a close working relationship between the builder, homeowner and designer, Lana Rogerson. No detail was overlooked during the 18-month renovation.

The natural cherry cabinets from Canada’s Downsview Kitchens, for instance, appear beautifully simple, while modern appliances like the Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, microwave, flat screen television, even the telephone, are all concealed within the kitchen’s custom cabinetry.

Electrical outlets have been tucked away in cabinets, drawers, and under countertops. For convenience, two are exposed, but they have been hand-painted to match perfectly with the granite counter, appearing invisible at first glance.

The elegant three-piece wine cellar was hand-crafted by Stockton’s Vinothèque to complement the cabinets and kitchen space. Interior accent lights illuminate the intense hues of the liquid fruit.

For the bibliophile, the library is an immensely inviting retreat with its walls of books, rolling ladder, crackling fireplace, overstuffed sofa, and windows looking out to expansive gardens.

Awash in marble, deep cherry woods and granite, the master bathroom suite provides the ultimate oasis. The steam shower is granite, while the oversized tub and flooring are made from Carrara marble. A radiant heating system under the marble flooring perfectly pampers chilly feet. Double ogee granite countertops are just another one of the extra features that make this room exceptional.

Even the closets in this home have not been slighted. The interior of every bedroom closet has been hand-painted to match the curtains and accent fabric of each room. The homeowner says the delicate artistry always makes her smile when she opens the doors.

Attention to detail continues outside, where colorful gardens lead to an infinity pool that appears to lap over the edge of the property and into the lake beyond. Peruvian Travertine marble creates a smooth finish.

Nature adds its own brushstrokes with sunsets that turn the backyard into a richly painted postcard of orange, pinks and purples.

Peter Giudice attributes the seemingly effortless beauty of this home to an ideal working relationship with the homeowners. “Remodels require a lot of coordination. Beyond that it is the needs and creativity of the homeowners and the process of building those ideas into a beautiful, livable reality.”

Fait accompli! Being in this home is like stepping into one of Claude Monet’s peaceful works of art. It soothes the soul and relaxes the mind!
