In Stockton, a trip downtown to the Tidewater Art Center & Gallery will provide art collectors an opportunity to view work by the 22 member artists, including everything from fabulous oils, pastels and watercolor to daunting sculptures and jewelry pieces created by area artists.

Head north to the historic Magnolia District, and be transformed by the multicultural pieces that permeate the new and exciting Mexican Cultural Museum and Gallery. With emphasis on art created by Hispanic artists, portraiture and sculpture dominate this most recent of Stockton galleries.

Also in the Magnolia District is the Jack Feldman Gallery, named for the owner and curator, whose work has won international acclaim. Visits to this facility are by appointment only, and are certainly worth making the phone call.
Remain in the area and visit the Alan Short Gallery. This gallery is unusual, in that all of the works are created by adult students with disabilities as part of a training co-op, where students are paid as they learn.

On the Miracle Mile, one can visit the Elsie May Goodwin Gallery opened by the Stockton Art League in 1991. Again a co-op, the building was purchased with savings from the League and funds left to the group by benefactor Elsie May Goodwin at the time of her death. This multi-faceted gallery is home to more than 35 artists, according to gallery director Aleen Gall, with a new show approximately every 60 days.

Continuing north, the Reynolds Gallery at the University of the Pacific is ever-changing with works by university students, staff and alumni, as well as guest artists from throughout the country. And the Horton Gallery on the campus of San Joaquin Delta College provides yet another venue for some of the finest art and sculpture in the vicinity.

Leaving Stockton and continuing to Lodi, a visit to the Knowlton Gallery is a must. The Knowlton showcases many of the finest professional painters, photographers and sculptors working in the Central Valley region. Owner Robin Knowlton has extended the collection beyond artists in this area to include many top landscape artists from the Bay Area and beyond.

Enjoy the embodiment of some of the finest art in California without having to leave home to do it.
